Rules of the ClayHound
The rules are simple and basic ...and flexible. After all, it's
all supposed to be fun! ...Right?
Pottery Construction to qualify as "Traditional"
- Must be hand made by the "coil"
(or "pinch pot") method
(key to the traditional style).
- Local hand mixed clay.
- Slips and paints from natural materials.
- Hand made traditional tools.
- Pit fired.
|
Exceptions:
-
Everything except items 1, 2 & 3 above.
-
Ceramics (molded pots),
wheel made and traditional pots with poster paints are
acceptable for the collection as long as they are Native
American made - but are not as "traditional".
-
Modern tools are acceptable
(Native Americans would advance with time).
-
Kiln fired is acceptable
(same reason).
|
Junior ClayHound:
- You can reduce the number of Desert or Woodland pieces
- since some of these will be hard to find. However, you
can not reduce the number of the 20 Pueblo sites. This is
the heart of all traditional pottery collections from North
America.
