notes:

I was walking on the muddy streets of Mata Ortiz (that day it was raining and the streets have no pavement), when I was approached by Felix Ortiz. He asked

me if I wanted to see his wife's pottery (usually when you go to Mata Ortiz you get approached by many potters inviting you to visit their home to see and buy some pottery). We went to his house and he showed me the coyote that you bought, a crow, a tequila pitcher with five cups and some other pottery that didn’t make it when it was cooked.  He also had two unfinished coyote’s that were not painted and cooked.  Felix gave me a quick and brief explanation of how he gives the black color to the pottery using graphite and a polishing stone.  Later Chela Ortiz arrived, we chat a little, she explained to us that she is the one that paints and signs the pottery.       -  Luis F Medina
